President's Message


Dear Malayali friends,

President - Babu GeorgeKerala Cultural Society of Metropolitan Washington (KCSMW) has carved its own niche in the hearts and minds of all Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland Malayali families through its impeccable activities and service to the community. KCSMW has grown in leaps and bounds during the past twenty six years of its existence and shown exponential growth, only due to your heartfelt warmth and overwhelming support.

I am extremely honored and privileged to be elected as the President of the dynamic and popular Malayali Organization in the DC metro area where its members have come to think of KCSMW "as a home away from home". We are blessed with a very enthusiastic and especially talented executive committee of twenty eight members, who are willing to provide exceptional service to the Malayali community. I would like to thank you for entrusting this remarkable organization in our hands for the year 2010.

KCSMW will try our best to reach out to other Kerala Associations in the Capitol region to do programs of common interest together, as a means of achieving better relationship and to foster unity among people of Kerala origin while evoking a sense of establishment as a stronger Malayali community. Proposals have already been submitted to other sister organizations in the area.

In addition to the Youth Club we will have a men's club and women's club, starting tjhis year. The current executive committee welcomes your inputs, new ideas and suggestions.

We have started the current year by volunteering at DC central kitchen. It was jointly hosted by KCSMW and KAGW. Other proposed activities and activities being undertaken for the year 2010 are:

  1. Summer Dreams 2010 on May 8, 2010
    An evening that will showcase the best Malayali talents from the Metro Washington area along with the award winning mother and daughter duo singers, Sujatha Mohan and Shwetha Mohan, accompanied by notable artists from the Malayalam film industry. Please visit www.kcsmw.org for more details.

  1. KCS Kalari
    Malayalam and cultural awareness classes. In order to provide our children with the gift of Malayalam and to create awareness on our great culture and civilization, the KCS Kalari have resumed its classes at the Germantown Community center in Maryland. The lead teacher is Ms. Beena Tomy. In response to an overwhelming interest by community members, we are expanding KCS Kalari classes in Silver Spring, Maryland and Ashburn, Virginia.   1. Youth Activities
    A variety of youth activities are being planned by our youth that include Bowling Day, Youth Day, Theme Park Day, Ocean Day, Dance Day, and Food, Blood, and Clothe Drives.

  1. Adopt-a-Road program
    Good Luck Road in between Cipriano Road and Princess Garden Parkway in PG County has been adopted by KCSMW for the last 5 years and we have won multiple awards for its maintenance from the county officials.

  1. Family Cruise
    A cruise with live band, lots of food and fun. For further details, please send an email to president@kcsmw.org

  1. Onam Mela: Utsav 2010 - on September 4, 2010
    A whole day of Onam celebrations with traditional Ona Sadya, Athachamayam, Pachakamalsaram, and a variety entertainment show, that will linger in your hearts and minds for a long time..

  1. KCSMW Picnic - on June 19, 2010
    A fun day for all ages, full of masti, games, and food! Challenge your limits!

  1. Jingle Bells 2010 - on December 11, 2010
    Christmas and New Year celebrations with X'Mas tree decoration and Carol singing competitions with vivid entertainment. You are invited for an epitome of soul stirring music and electrifying dances.

Let's all join our hands together to make every member of our outstanding community feel connected and a part of KCSMW's unforgettable cultural experience. With the support of all its members and the contributions from our community, there is no doubt in my mind that this year will be a successful year for Kerala Cultural Society of Metropolitan Washington. I would like to recognize the support and contributions of our financial sponsors and I earnestly request you to patronize them.

As my predecessors have done in the past, I too beseech your whole hearted help, support, and cooperation in all our activities. Your ideas, creativity, suggestions and positive criticism are always welcome and appreciated.
