KCS Kalari - Malayalam Class & Cultural Awareness Program

In order to promote awareness of our rich culture and heritage in our young generation, KCSMW is proud to offer KCS Kalari instructional sessions focused on Indian culture and Malayalam language. The classes began on January 29th, 2011 and will be held once a month. In order to accommodate the large number of participants, we are holding classes at three locations:

Columbia classes will be at Longfellow Nursery School, 5267 Eliots Oak Road, Columbia, MD 21044. Please contact Anil Nair at Snairanil@gmail.com or (443) 822 4828

President’s Message

Dear Malayali friends,

As I take on the privilege of serving the Malayalee community as the President of KCSMW for the year 2011 with great honor, I would like to wish you a 'Happy and Prosperous New Year'.  I am proud to lead an organization that represents the Malayalee community in Metropolitan Washington DC area.  A wonderful year in the history of KCSMW has passed under the dynamic leadership of Babu George and before we progress onto the next year, I would like to once again introduce KCSMW, Kerala Association of Metropolitan Washington to all of you, and express my heartfelt thanks to everyone for your whole hearted support over the past 26 years.

On behalf of the new Executive Committee, I wish you all good health and prosperity.

Dr. Parthasarathy Pillai receives "Bharat Samman Achievers Award"

Dr Partha Sarathy Pillai, a past president of KCSMW was honored with "Bharat Samman Achievers Award" at the NRI Institute 21st Annual meeting, New Delhi on Jan 10th 2011. The award was presented by Parliamentary Affairs minister Pavankumar Bensel and External Affairs Minister Maharani Praneeth Kaur.

KCSMW members participate in the 9th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas
PBD 2011 - 9th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was held from Jan 7 thru 9th 2011 in New Delhi. Over 1500 NRIs from 51 countries participated in the 3 day event held at Vigyan Bhawan. Several members of KCSMW and the Washington malayalee community participated in the event, including Suresh Raj, Dr. Parthasarathy Pillai, Ann Pillai, Sunny Wycliffe, Teresa Wycliffe, and Benoy Thomas. After the event KCSMW former President Suresh Raj met with Union ministers Hon. A.K. Antony, Hon. Vayalar Ravi, Shri. K. V. Thomas, Shri Mullappally Ramachandran, and Shri E. Ahamed and shared news about the Washington, DC area malayalee community.
FOMAA National Malayalam literary writing competition

The Federation of Malayalee Associations of Americas (FOMAA) has announced the National level Malayalam Literary Writing Competition for the residents of USA and Canada. The FOMAA Capital region is organizing this event to promote the Malayalam language and literary activities in
North America. The Competition Rules and Regulations as follows;

1. Eligibility: All competition participants must be residents of USA or Canada. This is open to all ages. The literary competition organizers and judging panel members are not eligible to participate in the contest.

KHNA Subharambham in Washington DC

KHNA's Sixth Biennial Convention is less than six months away. This will be a landmark convention not only because it is being held in Washington, the nation's capital, it is also a celebration of the tenth anniversary of the KHNA.

 

KHNARegistration for the convention is in full swing! The old word

"kickoff" for the start of registration has been replaced with "Subharambham". Subharambham has taken place in NY, PA, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, LA, and Florida.

 

Our Subharambham, in the Washington, DC area, is scheduled for SundayMarch 12, 2011, and you are invited Come, relax, and enjoy the entertainment and snacks and coffee to your heart's content. If you are committed to another event on Sunday, try to spare few minutes to meet everybody and win a door prize!
