Secretary, KCSMW

I consider it an honor and a privilege to serve as the Secretary of KCSMW for 2011. That sense of honor and privilege is great especially for me as I have been a part of the KCS family since its inception in 1984. My parents were one of the first area Malayalees that joined this fledgling society during its first year. Since that time, I have seen KCS grow from a loose association of a handful of Malayalee families to the strong organization that it is today. KCS has grown by leaps and bounds into a great organization capable of bringing together cultural events, showcase local talent, and promote awareness and understanding of the rich tradition and heritage of Kerala. We can look back to 2010 for perfect examples of these capabilities. There were four outstanding shows with a sold-out Seemati Show taking the lead, followed by the Dileep Show, Gandharva Sandhya by Dr. K.J Yesudas, and finishing off the year with Jingle Bells 2010.

But we should not rest on the laurels of our previous accomplishments. Instead, I believe KCS is destined for bigger and better things for 2011. We have kicked off the year with an outstanding 'Summer Dreams' with over 200 participants putting together an unbelievable show that I have no words to describe. I must congratulate our talented entertainment team consisting of committee members and volunteers. The show was well received and the feedback has been tremendous from our community. We did 'Show 2011' on May 7 partnering with Kairali of Baltimore and again it was a tremendous success. We hope to bring more shows like these to you and all this is only possible with the support of our members and the Malayalee community at large.

After the mesmerizing 'Summer Dreams 2011', Kerala Cultural Society proudly presents yet another show for you and with you, 'Onam Mela - UTSAV 2011' on Aug 27th. As always, your participation is what matters! So, come onboard and together, let's create another success story. We have scheduled Road cleaning (Adopt -a-road) in May. There will also be a variety of other community events such as the Malayalam classes and youth community service in DC soup kitchen. The true greatness of KCS will rely on the active participation of all our members and I look forward to serving you and the community at large to help achieve our goals.

Feedback from a KCS Kalari student's parent

I wish to commend the team at KCS Kalari of Virginia for the commendable work they are doing in disseminating knowledge of Malayalam Language to young kids as well as aspirants who would like to learn this divine language. The teachers are putting in a selfless effort with lot of enthusiasm. The best way to know the good work being done by the teacher's is the enthusiasm shown by children, like my daughter Shraddha, who is excited attending malayalam classes. I thank you all once again and thanks to the Patrons and office bearers who have made the Malayalam classes a grand success. Keep up the good work.
