We wish you all a very happy and prosperous VISHU and Easter! Thank you for joining us at the Summer Dreams 2011 on Saturday, April 2nd. We hope that you had a wonderful time with us and that you were able to experience the depth and richness of our local talent. My heartfelt thanks and appreciation to each and every one of you for your selfless effort towards the success of the show. Hats off to our entertainment team and choreographers for a fabulous job! Your creativity was on full display in the dazzling dance numbers. Thank you for helping us stage such a colorful and unique show. My sincere gratitude to all the participants, parents, coordinators, and volunteers. Thank you for your time and effort and for being there on time for the rehearsals and for the performance. Your participation is what matters and you turned out in record numbers showing unprecedented support.

Kudos to the KCS team comprising of front desk management, gate management, hospitality, sound, graphics, and stage management for a tough job perfectly done! Special thanks to Rajeev Nair for the videos, Dr. Thomas for lights, and Unni Nair for the photographs. To add to this success, we have been invited to perform all the items from Summer Dreams 2011 at the 'Heritage India Festival' to be held at Chantilly, VA on May 14th. NCAIA - conducted "Ask the Embassy"

The National Council of Asian Indian Associations, in collaboration with other Indian American organizations in the national capital area, hosted a forum on the various issues affecting the Indian American community on April 16th at Eastern Montgomery Regional Service Center, Silver Spring, MD. Various topics covered are Passport renewal, Passport surrender, Delays in receiving OCI/PIO card, Visa and Re-entry Permit, and other embassy-related issues.

The panel included the following high-ranking embassy officials:

Special prayers to Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithaythil

Special prayers were held on April 10th at Baltimore Syro Malabar catholic mission in memory of Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithayathil, who passed away on April 1st . Director Father James Nirappel led the prayers. Mr. Abraham Joshua, president of Baltimore - Washington ecumenical council was also present during the occasion.


Mar Varkey Vithayathil was one of the cardinal electors who participated in the 2005 papal conclave that selected Pope Benedict XVI. In February 2008 he was elected President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of India.

Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival 2011 - Kalyani Pillai

Kalyani Pillai got short listed to perform in Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival 2011. Federation of Indian American Christian Organizations of North America (FIACONA) held its General Body Meeting at 110 Maryland Avenue, Washington D.C. on 11 a.m., April 2, 2011. Mr. Abraham P. Mammen chaired the meeting and Dr. K.P.Verghese (Host Committee) delivered the welcome address, which was followed by Meditation & Prayer by Rev. Wilson Jose.

Ramayanam QUIZ contest for children

Kerala Hindus of North America (KHNA) is conducting a Ramayanam Quiz Contest for the children. Participants will be divided into four groups for the competition.

  • 5-6 (Shishu) - Coloring, identifying characters from scenes and copying words
  • 7-8-9 (Bala) - True/False statements, matching, short answer question etc.
  • 10-11-12 (Kishore) - Short answer/ small essay, matching, jumbled sentences in order
  • 13-14-15 (Tarun) - Short answer/ essay, matching, jumbled sentences in order

A model question paper for each group will be sent a month later. The Quiz will be held at the end of May or the beginning of June 2011. First place winner from each group will participate in the final quiz (on stage) that will be held during KHNA Biennial convention at Washington DC. Jr. Spelling Bee -- MastiSpell 2011 -- Grand Championship Prize $1000

Festival of India at University of Maryland & George Washington UniversityMastiSpell 2011 is a Jr. Spelling Bee Competition where students 4th Grade and under will participate to win the Grand Championship Prize of $1000. For a modest cover charge (on a no-profit basis), this family oriented event is planned to encourage learning and participation by our younger generation.

Baltimore's 9th annual RATHA YATHRA – Charriot Parade on Sun, May 29th 2011

Festival of India at University of Maryland & George Washington UniversityThis year marks the 9th annual Rathayatra for ISKCON Baltimore. Please attend with your friends and family and help to purify the Baltimore Inner Harbor area and its visitors by your presence and chanting of the holy names of the Supreme Lord. The parade will start at the Maryland science Center at the Baltimore Inner Harbor and travel down Light Street to Mckeldin square where the stage and tends will be setup for the festival. The parade starts at 12:00 Noon from the Baltimore Science Center and go down Light Street to Mckeldin square at the corner of Light and pratt street where the Festival of India willl continue till 7.00p.m

Obituary

Kutty Amma, 89, passed away on Tuesday the 29th of March at her home in Kerala. She was the eldest sister of Lakshmikutty Panicker of Laurel MD. On behalf of KCSMW, we wish to express our condolences on her sad demise. Lakshmikutty Panicker can be reached at (301)312-5117. May her soul rest in peace. Our prayers are with the family.
