The Kerala Cultural Society of Metropolitan Washington Inc. (KCSMW) is a non-profit organization registered in the state of Maryland. This organization was established in 1984 for promoting the cultural and social activities mainly among the Asian – Indian – American living in the USA. This Washington chapter serves the interest of the natives of Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland states. KCS has about 75 lifetime family members and about 50 regular family members. KCS serves the community in Washington DC Metropolitan area consisting of over 800 Malayali families at present. Currently, a lot of community activities are being initiated by this organization. A few of them are listed below: Scholarship Program KCS MW has decided to start a Scholarship program for the poor students in Kerala.
Depending on the fund availability and applicants Scholarship committee will decide the allocation.
To be eligible for scholarships, student should be currently enrolled or planning to enroll in the 2007-2008 academic year in a post-Higher Secondary course leading to a professional degree program such as Engineering, Medicine, Dentistry, Management, Nursing or Pharmacology.
Applicants should have scored at least 75% aggregate marks in the Higher Secondary level (12th Standard) examination.
Applicants should not be related to KCS office bearers.
For more info, please contact: Sasidharan Menon at (202) 445-7487 Adopt-a-road Program We have adopted the section of GOOD LUCK ROAD in between Cipriano Road and Princess Garden Parkway in PG County, MD which is being maintained by our volunteers. An agreement is in force with the county Govt. for this and we have received many awards from the county for the past four years. Adopt-a-child program Our youth wing is vigorously involved in collecting funds to support the children of an orphanage in India. Few of the physically handicapped children are among them who are raised and educated by this association. Language (Malayalam) Class We are providing Malayalam class to children who are interested in learning their mother tongue. Class is held twice a month between 2 PM – 4 PM. Raising funds for the poor and needy On special occasions like Thanksgiving and Christmas, we organize a food drive and serve food to the needy people in the Washington DC metro area. We are affiliated under the umbrella organization of 'Federation
of Kerala Associations in North America (FOKANA)' and 'National
Federation of Indian-Americans in North America (NFIA)' which
represent nationally for about 500,000 Asian-Indian Americans.
